Recent changes to Stamp Duty Land Tax

The changes to Stamp Duty Land Tax which came into effect on 1st April 2016 were of enormous significance for our property team and, it is fair to say, for most other firms of solicitors across England and Wales dealing with conveyancing.  The volume of transactions completed in the last ten days of March was probably five times the average for our firm.  While the SDLT changes only related to buy to lets and second homes, you only needed one property within a chain of transactions to fall into that category for the whole chain desperately to want to complete before the end of March to keep all the transactions together.

The pressure to exchange and complete before the end of the day on 31st March was enormous and we would like to thank all the members of our property team for pulling out all the stops to ensure that this happened.

The process of conveyancing can be enormously stressful, both for those actually moving house and for those trying to help them do it!  Not only is there the legal side to deal with, but the logistical side of trying to make everything happen on the same day.  Many thanks to our team, led by Julie Rowan and including Ben Norsworthy, Louise Leggatt, Lianne Sproull, Catherine White, Katrina Tabb, Jenni Appleby, Jenny Hill and Emily Moyle.  You can contact any of the property team on 01208 72328 or by following the link to team pages on our website http://sproullllp.co.uk/team_category/conveyancing-business-team/
