Wills

Losing those you love can be a difficult time. We’ve been in Cornwall for generations, helping with the legal formalities and practical steps needed to finalise affairs and look after future generations. We’re here to listen.

Making a Will

Many people are reluctant to make Wills – so much so that only about three in ten of the adult population of this country have done so. For the other 70%, the law decides who will inherit their property. It’s a common mistake to think that your husband or wife will “get it all” – often this is not the case. We offer an efficient and value for money will writing service. Our experienced staff will:

  • Explain to you the advantages of making a Will (you decide who gets what, peace of mind, avoiding squabbles, etc.)

  • Tell you what details need to be included

  • Discuss any potential Inheritance Tax problems

  • Produce a draft for you to see

  • Once you’re happy, meet you for you to sign the final copy

  • Offer you our free, secure, storage facility.

Our charges for a straightforward Will are £250 + VAT (total £300.00) or for two similar Wills - e.g. husband & wife - £400 + VAT (total £480). People tend to be reluctant or frightened to make a Will, thinking they are too young or it’s morbid. We find many of our clients are pleased and relieved to get it done! We can also offer detailed advice in relation to Inheritance Tax, trusts and tax planning.

Disputed Wills

We act in many cases involving wills, or sometimes the lack of a will. Areas where we can help include where:

  • A will cannot be found

  • There is more than one will

  • Someone thinks they should have been left something and has not been

  • Someone has signed a will under pressure from someone else

  • A will has been faked

  • Someone has been promised something only to find it has been left to someone else

If you think you have should have benefited under a will and have not, we may be able to help, but you will need to act quickly – a claim must be issued within 6 months of probate being granted.

On the other hand, if you are an executor of an estate and someone is making or threatening to make a claim, we can help as well.
